On Wednesday 6th March 2019, the children had a special assembly with Father Timothy.
He came in to share an Ash Wednesday service with us and to tell us about the importance of this time to Christians. Ash Wednesday is a time to think about God's love and the way that He forgives us when we are sorry for the wrong things we may have done.
Father Timothy demonstrated this by leading us in prayers of confession. He screwed up pieces of paper as he prayed about the wrong things we may have done and then put them in a bowl. He set the pieces of paper alight and amazingly they disappeared without a trace. This showed us that God will forgive the wrong thngs we do and He will choose to forget them. Our wrongdoings are no more when we say sorry.
Children and adults were then invited, if they wanted to, to have an ash cross on their forehead. This is a traditional symbol for Ash Wednesday.
