Autumn Term

Severn Class has taken on a challenging mission to write stories that can be turned into an animated film as part of their Big Write in English lessons. The next challenge is to use persuasive writing skills to work out if Dr X is good or evil!

The class enjoyed a super languages day before half-term, learning all about France, making a passport, painting in the style of Claude Monet and building the Eiffel tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows. In the afternoon they enjoyed a quiz before using their passports to enter the hall and enjoy some French food.

Daily Maths challenges begin at 8.40am every day. Times tables are practised regularly to give the children confidence to problem solve and reason about maths. A Maths evening for parents is planned for November to engage everyone in this great subject!

Severn Class will also be a big part of the Christmas Fair this year on Sunday 4th December from 2-4pm in school. As part of an enterprise project they are designing games and making decorations and will be running their own stalls in Severn Classroom on the day.

A hockey tournament was enjoyed by the Year 4s and Miss Ree is organising matches for the school football team very soon. Girls and boys teams have been entered into the Blackminster Middle School 5-a-side tournament on Friday 7th April.

Lots of Year 5s also braved the cold weather and volunteered to run in a cross country event at Prince Henry’s High School.

Topic work for Year 5s asking ‘Are we damaging our world?’ was presented to an invited audience of families where children researched and presented work on an issue from the topic that was important to them.

Compton Verney near Stratford upon-Avon is the venue for the Key Stage Two trip this term where the children will visit the art gallery and take part in creative writing and art workshops.

The Key Stage Two Christmas assembly is on the morning of Wednesday 14th December in the hall.

Teamwork continues to play a key role in everything we do along with the school values of: Friendship, Perserverence, Respect, Responsibility and Truth.
